Executive Trainings
CBS organizes training sessions with the objective of strengthening public, private and civil society organizations and entities in Pakistan. All CBS training programmes aim to bridge existing gaps in these institutions by offering customized training programmes in various aspects of capacity building. CBS training programmes are designed with the goal of helping the client organizations build their knowledge-based human capital, which in turn builds systems, processes and structures and ensures sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness.
CBS offers a comprehensive range of executive development programs. They are designed to bring the integral management of Pakistani Civil Society Organizations and the Government of Pakistan organizations to a higher level of management excellence, accountability, and transparency. The programs are intended specifically for public and non-profit sector managers and leaders who wish to enhance and expand their skills.
The courses are taught by world class faculty seasoned both by their experience in leading institutions around the world and by the recently concluded five-year Assessment and Strengthening Program (ASP) at LUMS. Situated at LUMS, CBS has modern, purpose-designed facilities which encompass a range of conference rooms, small syndicate rooms suitable for breakout sessions, dining facilities and a fitness center.

ASP-LUMS was a 5-year long training program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It was designed to bring the management of Pakistani civil society and government organizations to a higher level of management excellence, accountability, and transparency. Over 3,000 managers and executives from government and civil society organizations from across Pakistan were trained in areas including monitoring and evaluation, fiscal decentralization, and leadership and cultural change, and many more.
SEDC was established with funding from CIDA. Under a collaborative agreement between McGill University and LUMS, the project ran for six years from 2001 to 2007 under which more than 300 social service managers were trained and over 200 case studies were produced. A working paper series was also published under the title of 'Managing NGOs in Developing Countries'. The CIDA program also gave birth to the SEDC internship and training program that dealt with capacity building and strengthening monitoring and evaluation mechanisms in the sector.

The Packard Foundation partnered with SEDC in 2008 for a five-year healthcare program that included two projects. The first was titled the Health Enterprises Leadership Development Program (HELP), under which SEDC undertook the management and leadership training of health officials to improve service delivery in the public sector. The second program was the National Leadership for Reproductive Health and Development Project (NLRHD) initiative that formulated a National Women’s Leader Workshop and conducted management and leadership training for 426 individuals.

The Citi Foundation project was a collaboration between CitiBank, Pakistan and the SEDC. The project began in 2009 and targeted three sectors: financial literacy, higher education and microfinance. The three modules were spread out over three different projects; a Management Development Training Programme for Microfinance Institutions, Living Literacy, Changing Lives: Citi-LUMS Youth Initiative and Expanding the Role of Universities Towards Socioeconomic Development Initiative.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded SEDC’s ASP at LUMS. ASP-LUMS was a 5-year long training program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It was designed to bring the management of Pakistani civil society and government organizations to a higher level of management excellence, accountability, and transparency. Over 3,000 managers and executives from government and civil society organizations from across Pakistan were trained in areas including monitoring and evaluation, fiscal decentralization, and leadership and cultural change, and many more. An Internship Fair and several conferences that included a Research Dissemination Conference, and a Learning and Experience Sharing Conference were also organized and conducted through SEDC effort. The aim of these collective events was to build the institutional capacity of local organizations, which would enable efficient and responsible mechanisms in civil society and social organizations.

Funded by the U.S State Department, Pakistan Women Entrepreneurship Program was launched in 2015 as a joint initiative of LUMS and American University, Washington DC. The PWEP is working to build the capacity of Pakistani women entrepreneurs in creating, sustaining and scaling up their businesses. PWEP focuses on providing quality capacity building, mentoring, and leadership training to help women in areas of marketing, management, operations, finance and human capital development. The aim is to champion and support female entrepreneurs and to suggest changes in the current regulatory climate to reduce gender inequalities It has engaged American University and LUMS faculty and staff in exchanges of information, experiences and expertise relevant to female entrepreneurship in Pakistan. The program is divided into two phases and three components which include Certificate Program for Women Entrepreneurs, Leadership Program and Women Summit. The first phase of the program was completed in January 2016 while the second phase is in progress.
• Leadership and Team Building Programme (L&TB)
CBS, in collaboration with the Habib Foundation and University of Leipzig, Germany, organized an Export Managers Advanced Training (EMAT), scheduled totake place from March 13 to 20, 2020 at SDSB, LUMS. This training was meant forthe benefit of Pakistani SMEs, entrepreneurs and managers entailing International Business Development training modules designed by the University of Leipzig faculty. This training also consisted of a Train-the-Trainer element in which faculty members from LUMS were engaged for the future sustainability of the training programme. The six-day training programme comprised of two modules of three days each. As the COVID-19 situation evolved nation-wide, the first half of this training was successfully completed at LUMS, while the remaining modules were conducted online after the university closed down till further notice.
From March 15 to 19, 2021, CBS conducted trainings for 22 officers of the Merged Areas, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under the Governance and Policy Project (GPP) of P&D Department Merged Areas. The objectives of these trainings was to build the capacity of the planning and development staff working at the secretariat and district level.
Dr. Anjum Fayyaz, Dr. Shakeel Sadiq Jajja and Dr. Syed Aun Raza Rizvi from SDSB, LUMS were the teaching faculty for this five-day training programme.
On the last day, Mr. Amer Sultan Tareen, Secretary Planning & Development Department, KP and Mr. Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Director General PCNA were chief guests and attended the presentations given by the participants of this programme.
