Centre for Business and Society (CBS) at LUMS, in collaboration with the Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA), launched an immersive four-week student traineeship programme from August - September 2025.
Rooted in the shared vision of CBS and PWPA to advance women’s social and economic empowerment, the programme provided a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on exposure to public service, policy development, advocacy, and gender equity.
Four student trainees from the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) and the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) at LUMS were onboarded to work directly with PWPA. Over the course of the month, they actively contributed to a wide range of meaningful assignments, including:
Drafting policy recommendations on gender-sensitive policies and women’s rehabilitation frameworks.
Designing and curating community outreach material to strengthen awareness and engagement.
Researching case studies of rehabilitation and support systems to inform institutional practices.
Supporting PWPA’s ongoing advocacy campaigns and institutional reform initiatives.
This programme not only enhanced the students’ professional skills but also deepened their understanding of gender equity and social justice challenges in Pakistan. By embedding themselves in the day-to-day work of PWPA, the trainees gained valuable mentorship, practical insights, and a sense of responsibility towards contributing to societal transformation.
The CBS–PWPA traineeship stands as an important step in bridging academia with policy and practice, and reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to nurturing socially responsible leaders who can drive inclusive change.
